STRAP FITTING 834145
Description: An incomplete post-medieval (1500-1700) copper-alloy asymmetrical belt mount with two integral spiked lugs to the reverse; one of these is missing its tip (old damage).
The asymmetrical plate is formed of an isoceles triangular in shape with a lozengiform knop (6.9 mm wide) extending 10.5mm from the apex of the triangle. Below the knop is a collar (3.4mm wide and 8.9mm long) with convex ends. From the opposite end of the triangle is an oval knop 7.7x6.2mm.
The front of the object is decorated with punched annulets (c.0.9mm diameter). These are in several formations - a scroll which runs from the tip of the lozenge to one corner of the triangle before curving to the other side and back in on itself at the end; a cluster just below this; a trasnverse line below the collar, with an additional annulet at either end of the collar; a sub-circular shape in the oval end.
On the reverse the two integral, bent spiked lugs are arranged vertically along the central axis.
The object measures 28.3mm in length and measures 8.7 mm wide at the top of the triangular body. The body of the mount is 2mm thick (with the integral bent spike it measures 7.9mm in thickness) and weighs 3.04g.
