HARNESS FITTING 813498

Description: A complete copper alloy possible harness fitting, a terret or ring possibly of Iron Age to Roman date. The ring is not evenly shaped, being thicker in one hemisphere than the other and the hole is not centrally placed. The hoop is approximately D-shaped in profile but with eleven semi circumferential lobes around the thicker edge. This leaves an arc about one-fifth of the total circumference which is narrowed, without lobes, but marked, through wear or for some other reason, with two fine semi circumferential incisions. The surface is grey/green It is 14.66mm in diameter. The perforation is 8.14mm in diameter. The hoop is 3.53mm thick at its widest point, 2.14mm at its narrowest.. It weighs 2.27g.
