Description: An incomplete Iron Age or Roman strip bow brooch (Aucissa derivative) dating to 1st century AD. It is missing its pin and has a small split in the metal below the pin slot but is otherwise complete. It is bent and would probably have been more or less straight originally, is 46.35mm in length. It has forward rolled wings, 14.95mm in width. It is c1.00mm thick. The bow is 7.41mm in width immediately below the wings, tapering to a pointed foot where the catchplate extends from the inside surface. The catchplate is sub rectangular , 6.77mm in width at its widest. The pin curl is extant. There is an incised line along each outer edge of the bow, meeting at the foot, with beading apparent in places along the lines. There may be some silvering or tinning, otherwise the item has a mid green patina. It weighs 2.22g. See Hattatt p319 fig178 for similar.
