THIMBLE 807073
Description: An early post-medieval (1500-1700) copper alloy thimble, now squashed to one side and with a small tear. The thimble has a shallowly-domed top with flaring sides and is decorated with a spiral of punched squarish-circles, starting at the the centre of the dome and continuing down the walls for two thirds of their height. The remaining third is undecorated and a shallow ridge flanks the open end.
The top measures 14.2mm in diameter, expanding to 20.7mm wide (by 14.4mm) at the open end. The walls are 0.8mm thick. The thimble stands 18.8mm in height and weighs 4.17g. The metal has lost its original patina ad is a purplish brown in colour.
