BUCKLE 804272
Description: A fragment of medieval copper alloy composite buckle, missing most of the integral forked spacer (two stumps remain), its pin and sheet plates. The oval lipped frame (the outside edge forming a triangular point at the centre) measures11.6x13.8mm (internal 8.0x9.1mm). The two stumps of forked spacer survive to a length of 3.6-4mm. The break is worn and occurs at the step which then extends into thinner arms. The area between them is 2.8mm wide.
The buckle frame measures 15.8mm in length and 13.8mm in max.width (at the frame). It weighs 0.87g.
Egan & Pritchard write, 'These buckles with their distinctive composite plates seem to have been a widespread mid 14th to early 15th century form in this country' (1991; p.80). Cf. Egan & Pritchard 1991 figs.48 and 49, nos.322-330.
