Description: A fragment of a cast copper alloy Roman T-shape brooch dating to AD 50-150. One of the wings is damaged, the lower bow, catchplate and pin are missing.The item is 8.25mm in length and 10.90mm in width, and weighs 3.58g.
The wings are cylindrical in cross section and 2mm in diameter. The tips of the wings are decorated with two semi-circumferential grooves to the front, one close to the bow, the other towards the end. There is damage to the end of one of the wings, but the pin bar is in place, as is the base of the pin.
The bow is 5.78mm in width as it leaves the head but tapers quickly and is 2.30mm in width just 6.30mm below the head. It is D shape in cross-section.
