Description: A later medieval (c.1300-1500) copper alloy annular frame from a disc-on-pin buckle, missing its pin and separate bar. The frame is circular in cross-section (1.9mm diameter) with 2.7mm a constriction for the pin to one face only. To the opposite face and set perpendicularly to the pin constriction are two transverse grooves - one on each side. This would have been for a separate bar, secured in place by hammering the edges of the groove over (Redmayne, 2016; 2). The frame measures 16.0mm in diameter (11.8mm internal diameter), 1.9mm in thickness and weighs 0.89g. Redmayne (ibid; 3) suggests a late medieval date for disc-on-pin buckles, perhaps from around 1300 or slightly earlier given a pseudo inscription on one such example (ibid; fig.2).
