BUCKLE 772563

Description: A cast copper-alloy Late Roman single loop kidney shaped buckle, probably dating to the period AD c. 330-410. The plate is missing. The buckle has a concave front with heart-shaped frame (kidney shaped), rounded outer corners and a concave curved outer edge. The strap bar is thick and shows in the middle a rectangular pin slot. The pin, which has been folded round the strap bar, has been bent slightly at the centre and tapers to the tip. At the two ends of the strap bar are two broken loops, possibly deliberately damaged. The back part of the buckle is flat. The all object is undecorated. The buckle measures 35.68mm in length, 21.44mm in width, 3.35mm thick and weights 11.00g.
