HARNESS PENDANT 74367

HARNESS PENDANT 74367
Description: Copper alloy medieval harness pendant, complete except for wear around the edges and loop and loss of much of the gilding. A central piercing 4mm in diameter (pushed through from the reverse) is at the centre. From this probably four (although only three are visible due to wear) leaves radiate. That directly below the loop is heart shaped - the point vanishing at the central piercing. Immediately below and to its right is another probably heart-shaped leaf (it is worn but appears to follow the lines of the first). Below the first leaf the pendant is extremely worn and no leaf or other decoration is visible. However, up and to the left is another quite clear leaf shape and it is tear-drop shaped, with the point again lost to the central piercing. Some of the lines are picked out in the traces of gilding that survive; others are shadows. The metal is very thin and dark brown with a purple tinge. No original patina survives. Measurements are 37.5mm (26mm excluding loop) x 29mm. Weighs 3.41g.
