STRAP END 726188

Description: A copper alloy a strap end dating to the period AD c 1270-1450. The object is incomplete. It comprises a sub-rectangular prong which narrows to a blunt point. At the top of the prong, there is a sloping shoulder which leads to a collar topped by an acorn knop (8.74mm from collar to the top). The acorn knop has incised cross hatch detail around the 'cup' and dots at the top. The knop then leads down to a matching second shoulder which became a second prong (this is mostly missing). The patina is light green with darker green patches underneath. Cf Egan, G and Pritchard, F, 1991, Dress Accessories c 1150-c 1450 Medieval Finds from Excavations in London, HMSO, London, p 144
