Description: An incomplete post medieval copper alloy crotal bell dating to the period c. AD 1600 - 1800. The remaining fragment consists of a small portion of the lower hemisphere of the bell, one edge being one side of the pea slot. The bell is decorated with an incised design of a trapeziodal heraldic shield with an incomplete initial terminated by an old break. There are a series of diagonal lines radiating out from the shield, one of which has a series of chevrons incised along its length. This may be a variation on the sunburst pattern.
The fragment measures 23.21mm in length, 17.45mm maximum width, 2.64mm minimum width, is 2.68mm thick and weighs 4.33g.
