BROOCH 704899

Description: An incomplete Iron Age copper alloy La Tene I brooch Type 1Cb dating to c 300-200 BC. The fragment comprises the pin and one half of the wound spring at the top. The remainder of the spring, pin and catchplate are missing. There are two coils of the spring which lead into the pin which is bent. The pin narrows towards the point and there are lengthways lateral marks on either side, presumably where the catchplate rubbed the pin. The brooch measures 54.65mm in length, 8.5mm wide, 3mm thick and weighs 4.54 grams.
