UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT 657258
Description: An unidentidied object, possible a fragment of a Post-Medieval (c.1500-1700) copper-alloy support (one of three) from the top of a chafing dish. It is in the form of a dog's head in profile, broken at the neck. the dog is finely worked with incised decoration for the eyes, ears and snout. The mouth is open and the tounge is projecting forward. No paralelles have been found for this object, but it is reminisant of chafing dish supporting arms which are usuall flat and two dimentional in the same way as this object but usually have anthropomorphic designs eg. KENT-31DC31, ESS-423F84, ESS-44DA30, SOMDOR-0652D0 and SF8937.
The object is 27.1mm long, 13.3mm wide, 2.7mm thick and weighs 4.81 grams.
