PENANNULAR RING 633152

Description: A gold plated copper alloy Bronze Age penannular ring dating to the period c. 1150 - 750BC. The ring consists of a copper alloy core forming a circular loop, plated with gold. It is circular in plan and in section and tapers slightly towards the terminals; these have become fused together by corrosion product from the base metal core coming out of the ends of both terminals. Part of the inner surface of the loop is worn, exposing the core. There are several patches around the circumference of the ring where corrosion product from the core has erupted through the gold plating and shows as a green-brown mass. Dimensions: The penannular ring measures 15.55mm in diameter (internal diameter 7.29mm), maximum thickness 4.45mm, minimum thickness 2.98mm and weighs 4.15g. .
