BUCKLE 596896

Description: An incomplete possibly tinned copper alloy Post Medieval (c.1550-1650) double oval buckle, missing one of the loops, the pin and the buckle plate. Overall it measures 24.50mm long, 22.80mm wide and 4.05mm thick. It weighs 2.81g. Only one loop survives, the frame of the other having broken off at the strap bar. The loop is sub-oval in shape with a protrusion at the end in the shape of two circles on either side of a point. There appears to be some surface decoration but it is too corroded to decipher. Internally the frame measures 10.90mm long and 15.70mm wide. cf. Whitehead (1996) Buckles: 1250-1800, 66, no.410.
