VESSEL 596838

Description: A fragment of a medieval copper-alloy vessel leg dating to the period c.AD 1300 - 1500. The leg is rectangular in plan and sub-triangular in cross section. The bottom of the leg is slightly curved and measures 23.46mm in width. It then widens to a width of 26.34mm before tapering to a width of 22.04mm. This section of the leg is decorated by a series of five longitudinal ridges which run 26.60mm in lenth at which point they are interrupted by a transverse ridge which runs the width of the leg. At this point the leg widens to a width of 26.14mm. Following the transverse ridge the leg narrows to a width of 19.69mm and terminates in an old break. The obverse is undecorated and features a longitudinal groove which runs the length of the pot leg from top to bottom. The leg may have originally been part of a longer leg rather than being attached directly to the vessel. The leg measures 45.38mm in length, 26.60mm at its widest point, 19.69mm at its narrowest point, 15.39mm at its thickest point, 11.39mm at its thinnest point and weighs 61.94g.
