Description: An incomplete copper-alloy Iron Age Langton Down brooch dating to the period c. AD 1 - 100. Only the head, part of the bow, part of the spring and the wings remain. The pin is missing. The brooch measures 23.98mm in length and is 22.41mm at its widest point. It weighs 4.51g.
The tubular wing span is 22.41mm and c.4.68mm in diameter. The wings terminate in an old break which runs the width of the wing span, exposing the interior of the wings which contains the remains of the corroded spring. The bow extends from the back of the head and is 12.48mm wide, taping to a width of 4.73mm at which point the brooch terminates in an old break. The head features three longitudinal moulded ridges which terminate at the bow. The brooch is otherwise undecorated.
The brooch is similar in shape and style to Hattatt, pp. 306, no. 271.
