SOCKETED AXEHEAD 590

Description: Complete bronze looped socketed axe. Square-sectioned mouth with rounded corners. Almost vertical sides, straight blade. Prominent collar at mouth with horizontal moulded ridge below on all sides, apart from that with the loop. Prominent casting flashes at seams. Upper edge of socket very uneven. Light, mottled patina - original metal showing through in patches. L: 129 W. mouth: 35.5 B. mouth: 39 Socket dims.: 25 x 25 W. loop: 5-10. Part of a hoard of 68 Armorican socketed axeheads.
