Description: A copper alloy fragment of the catchplate probably of a Colchester derivative brooch. The fragment measures 11.31mm across and 21.42mm in length and weighs 2.02g. In plan, the fragment comprises a rectangule 6.30mm wide. In section, the catchplate broadens out from the base of the brooch. The hook is broken and there is evidence of corrosion. At the base of the front of the bow of the brooch there is a semi-circular step protruding out by 3mm. The fragment probably dates to the period AD 100-200. Cf Hattatt no 409.
