BUCKLE 566887

Description: A incomplete cast copper-alloy post-medieval double-looped buckle frame, incomplete in so far as the pin is missing. The pin bar is central and extends beyond the edges in pointed lobes. The reverse is flat, and the frame slightly bevelled internally and externally on its upper surface. This latter is decorated on each outer edge by a very worn probable rosette. The frame is now black in colour. It measures 38.15mmx24.48mmx3.5mm and weighs 6.32g. Such buckles tend to be attributed a later 16th-century date (cf. Egan 2005, 35; ref. 88). The style of buckle is quite a common one: numerous examples are documented in the literature (from, for example, Norwich and Colchester: respectively, Margeson 1993, 31; ref. 174 and Crummy 1988, 17; ref. 1758) and on this database.
