BUCKLE 557027
Description: An incomplete cast copper alloy double looped oval buckle of Medieval to Post Medieval date, missing its pin. The axis bar displays iron residue indicating that the pin may have been made from iron. The buckle is flat to the reverse with the internal edges being steeply bevelled while the external edges of the frame slope gently. Examples of this type of buckle frame from London (Egan and Pritchard 1991 nos.331 to 342) date from the second half of the fourteenth to the second half of the fifteenth century, but as the form persists a later date cannot be ruled out.
The buckle measures 22.56mm in length, 18.84mm in width, 3.47mm thick and weighs 3.59 grms (Internal measurements 12.05mm length and 6.3mm wide)
