Description: An incomplete cast copper alloy Post Medieval buckle frame, missing its pin. The frame is a double looped trapezoidal type with one end crenellated into four triengle-shapes and the other with four rounded knops and large lobed knops on the end of winged extensions at the two corners. A narrowed strap bar and one interior frame edge displays iron corrosion indicating that perhaps the missing pin was made of iron. Similar examples can be found in Whitehead: 84, nos. 526-528 which he suggets date to c.1620-1680.
The frame measures 24.45 in length and 37.08mm wide at wide end and 21.25mm at the narrower end, 2.02mm thick and weighs 5.18g.
