Description: A Post-Medieval copper alloy stud with a flat circular head, depicting a cut-out design of a heart with two arrows in saltire behind it and an inverted V with a sphere at its apex above (possibly representing a small flame rising above the heart), all within a grooved circle.
To the reverse is a circular-sectioned shank 5.3mm in diameter, swelling to 5.6mm in diameter at the end.
Measures 17.33mm in width/ diameter, 8.44mm in length, head is 2.34mm thick, and weighs 4.80g.
Cufflinks and buttons with this design are considered to have originally been produced to commemorate the marriage of Charles II to Catherine of Braganza (1662), but continued to be used as a general symbol of love and/or marriage.
