BUCKLE 499376

BUCKLE 499376
Description: An incomplete cast copper-alloy double-looped buckle frame of post-medieval date. One of the loops has been broken just beyond the pin bar. On the surviving D-shaped loop is a large lobed knop at the centre of its outer edge. There are further, smaller lobed knops at two symmetrical points on each oval loop, and at either end of the pin bar. The frame is internally and externally bevelled on the upper surface. Seemingly flat on its uppermost and lower surfaces it would appear to be trapezoidal in cross-section with rounded corners. A thick wire pin survives looped around the pin bar; its tip has been bent to one side. The buckle frame now has a variable mid-grey/green colour; the pin, of a different alloy, is of a red/brown metal with patches of light-green corrosion product.
