STRAP FITTING 496516
Description: An incomplete Early Post-Medieval (1500-1700) copper alloy hooked suspension mount from a sword-belt hanger, with its attachment loop broken and missing. It measures 42.49x31.40x2.97mm and weighs 10.45g. The suspension mount is M-shaped with moulded foliate decoration in the form of leaves and tendrils springing from a central stem. The leaves vaguely resemble those of the vine. It has three rivet holes, two in either corner below the broken hook, the other at the centre of the opposite edge. All are filled with iron corrosion. The object has traces of a black substance, possibly linseed. For similar decoration, Cf. Read (2008) p.219, no.790.
