VESSEL 398395

VESSEL 398395
Description: A cast copper-alloy foot from a later medieval to early post-medieval cooking vessel. The object is 'clawed', with five moulded claws of similar widths, and a transverse rib above. The object is broken just above this 'ankle', revealing a leg of sub-triangular cross-section with a probable central moulded rib. The back is flat. One of the sides of the base is worn perhaps indicative of how the object stood when in use. The object has become slightly corroded and pitted post-deposition, and is largely a variable blackened colour with some patches of off-white corrosion product. This form of foot is comparable to the that published in Butler et al. (2009, 4; ref. 4c) dated to the 17th century.
