COIN 395772

COIN 395772
Description: A very worn, corroded, slightly clipped and bent copper-alloy coin: probably a douzain of Henry IV of France, uncertain mint (c. 1589 - c. 1610 AD). This coin has received a counterstamp, just off centre on the reverse. Such a countermark of a fleur de lis in oval of pellets revalued the coin at 15 deniers under Louis XIII during the ordinance of June 1640. The strength of the stamp may account for much of the bending to the flan.
