BUCKLE 393141
Description: An incomplete Early Post Medieval (1550-1650) cast copper alloy double-oval buckle frame, missing its pin (the axis bar retains a corroded piece of iron). It measures 39.97x28.11mm (internal loops c.11x22mm) and weighs 8.4g. The buckle loops are bent slightly upwards.
The frame consists of two oval loops with outer edges which extend into a point and although worn still carry traces of mouled decoration, probably a central rosette. The symmetrical buckle frame has a central strap bar with pointed knops extending either end of the frame.
Whitehead (2003) illustrates a similar buckle (p. 66, No. 407) which he dates to c.1550-1650.
