BROOCH 33629
Description: Cast copper-alloy button brooch, Avent and Evison 1982, Class Ai. Pointed helmet beneath which there are curved eyebrows. The eyes are small and round and have curved eyerings underneath them. The wide nose flares slightly at the nostrils. The cheeks are full and rounded and the open mouth is lentoid. There does not appear to be a moustache. The rim is almost vertical, with damaged edges. Single hinged lug and catchplate are broken, pin missing. Dark, almost black, even patina. This is a heavy, thick example. Class A button brooches have the most realistic representation of the human face of any of the classes and they also reveal a high quality of workmanship. There is a concentration of this class in Kent.
