STRAP FITTING 255509

Description: Early Post-Medieval copper alloy sword belt fitting, measuring 48.61mm in length and weighing 11.6g. It consists of a square body c.18x20mm, hollowed on the reverse. A D-shaped terminal with projection extends at one side with the remains of an iron rivet. At the other side a hook extends from another D-shaped projection, with copper alloy rivet in situ on the reverse. 17th century. Cf. Read 2001 pp.30, 42; no.355. Read suggests it may have been used to suspend a sword from a baldrick.
