FURNITURE FITTING 22175

Description: Decorative copper alloy fitting - mount or finial. Zoomorphic design. Form of a bird head and neck. Flaring S - shaped, oval with an oval section and decorated on both sides. Possibly a peacock. Beak with grooved detail. Spiral moulded eye. Small projection at the back of the head. Most of the surface is covered in stamped crescents (representing feathers?). At the base of the neck is a band of decoration forming a collar - incised spirals between two transverse grooves. At the very base is a small sub circular, flat ended projection - possibly for attachment.
