BROOCH 200434
Description: Incomplete Roman copper alloy oval plate brooch, c.2nd-3rd century AD. The brooch is missing its central inset and the pin. However there is traces of gilding on the front and tinning ont the back of the brooch.
The brooch measures 28mm in length and weighs 4.1g. The centre of the brooch is damaged and therefore missing part of the plate itself in the centre. The brooch has also lost part of its outer rim.
The gilding is only present on the outer ring of the brooch however the tinning is present on the majority of the back.
The spring mechanism is corroded but would have formed part of a single lug used to mount the pin. The catchplate has been bent over towards the back of the brooch.
