BUCKLE 178701
Description: A slightly corroded single-looped sub-rectangular buckle of post-medieval date. The strap bar is narrowed and recessed; the pin is missing. The buckle is bevelled externally on its upper face and internally on the lower. The outer edge is slightly incurved and features a central, projecting ovoid knop defined on either side by diagonal incisions. Some of the underlying metal shows through the mainly brown patina in places. A smaller example can be found illustrated in Whitehead (1996, 28; ref. 145), although Whitehead only offers a wide date range.
