Description: Medieval scabbard chape of cast copper alloy. The chape is sub-triangular, with the shorter edge being scalloped, and the two longer edges are curved. There is a sub-triangular projection at the apex of the chape, with scalloped edges. The side edges are curved and turned over at a 45 degree angle. The chape has a symmetrical open work design comprised of a rectangle, with a larger circle above, and a smaller circle below, either side of a raised ridge running vertically along the centre of the chape. There is a break at the top of the upper circle on the left side which runs to the top edge of the chape. The surface is a patchy dark to light green with areas of reddish-brown. The chape is 53.58mm long, 37.2mm wide and has a maximum thickness of 5.84mm.
