BUCKLE 141629
Description: A small worn single-looped medieval buckle frame cast in copper alloy. The frame is D-shaped with a narrowed and offset pin bar (Thickness: 1.35mm). The extant pin survives attached with its tip slightly abraded. It is of thick wire construction, bent round to secure it in place. The frame expands from the attachment end to the thickened outer edge (W.: 3.1mm, Th.: 2.2mm) which is recessed centrally. The sheet roller survives within the recess. No decoration can be discerned on the artefact in its current state: worn and corroded to an orange-brown colour with considerable traces of light green dusty corrosion product. A similarly petite buckle frame with sheet roller can be found illustrated in Egan and Pritchard (1991, 70; ref. 270). This latter was found in an early context; a wide high medieval date, however, cannot be ruled out.
