MOUNT 140465
Description: A worn cast copper-alloy medieval anthropomorphic mount in the form of a crowned male bust. The neck and shoulders are flat and feature a central rivet hole with extant rivet. The head and crown are convex, with recessed reverse; there is a further rivet central to the base of the crown. The mount is solid (other similar mounts often have perforations in the crown) and has a mid-green dull patina. Details can be discerned, particularly in the crown, and are picked out in deep V-sectioned engraving or 'chip carving'. Only a horizontal mouth can be made out on the face. This is a rather more elaborate version of a well-known c. 14th–century type and is unusual in having two rivets and for extending below the head to include both incurved neck and rudimentary shoulders. It was most probably mounted to a belt or leather strap.
