HOOKED TAG 135797

Description: Incomplete early post medieval tinned copper alloy flat hooked tag, missing one of its attachment loops. The tag is oval in shape with a rectangular loop 9.8x14.8mm (internal 10.1x3.4mm) projecting from one short-curving side. The opposite has a broken attachment loop. The other two attachment loops are each on one longer-curving side. They are trefoil in style with a 1.9mm diameter central piercing. The body of the tag is rough on its underside and smooth on the opposite, where traces of tinning remain. Measures 33.2mm (incomplete length) x29.6x1.8mm and weighs 7.43g. This is the 'female' and would more than likely have had a 'male' counterpart with a hooked end. 16th century.
