STRAP FITTING 135784

STRAP FITTING 135784
Description: Medieval copper alloy strap loop with separate internally-projecting rivet and measuring 13.4x13.6mm(10.9mm). It weighs 1.03g. Strap loops acted as loops on a belt do now - to hold down the long end of a strap once it had passed through the buckle. While some may have been used on belts, the smaller ones, like this example, might have been used on spur straps or wrist guard straps (Egan, Dress Accessories, 1991 p.229). Similar examples in Egan date to the second half of the 14th century.
