BROOCH 134833
Description: Incomplete copper alloy Late Iron Age/ Early Roman La Tene III type brooch, missing two coils of spring, pin and the curl of the catchplate.
The brooch is 42mm in length with a rather unusual bow. It extends below the springs in the usual way - wider bow, narrowing (here 5.3mm to 2.9mm over 14mm and highly curving). This area is decorated with an incised line flanking each long edge. At the narrowest point are five moulded ribs to a length 5.6mm. After these the bow expands again, from the bottomost rib (3.5mm wide) over 3mm to 6mm wide. It then narrows to a point over c.22mm. The catchplate extends 6mm in depth behind the bottom 9mm of bow.
Weighs 2.21g. 1st century BC/ early 1st century AD.
