STRAP END 112650

Description: Fragment of a copper alloy openwork relief-decorated strap-end. At one end there is a straight, recessed rectangular plate. From here the object thickens and forms an openwork, relief-decorated plate only a small section of which now survives. The decoration would most likely have formed a plant with tendrils. There may be a moulded motif in the centre of the plate at the junction with the recessed element. The motif is now heavily worn but may have originally been an acanthus leaf. The reverse is flat and undecorated.
