COIN 1062086
Description: An incomplete early-medieval (Anglo-Saxon) silver penny of Offa of Mercia (757-96), Light Coinage (dating to c.AD780-92/3), non-portrait type, mint: London, moneyer: Ealhmund (North 282; Chick 39var). Refs: North 1994: 85; Chick 2010: plate 7, cf. nos 39a-h; Naismith 2017: 133-5.
The coin is incomplete with extensive chipping of the outer edge of the coin and there is evidence of pitting on the surface.
The coin appears to be a variation on Chick 39 with the first line of the reverse inscription beginning with a cross instead of this being place above and between the letters H and L, i.e. +ALH rather than AL+H.
