Description: An incomplete copper alloy harness fitting of Anglo-Scandinavian date (11th century). A sub-circular loop attached to a bar with a rounded boss, which terminates with an historic break. The corresponding second knobbed loop is missing. The interior of the loop is angled, so the underside is much wider than the outer. The underside of the fitting is flat. The outer surface is domed and rises to the central boss, thus creating a semi-circular cross section. Both outer and underside are undecorated. On the underside of the boss are two small patches of dark green/black corrosion. Weight: 7.6g. Length: 41.04mm. Thickness: 3.98mm. Diameter (loop, external, upper surface): 17.10mm. Diameter (loop, internal, upper surface): 10.91mm Diameter (loop, internal, lower surface): 15.44mm Width (boss): 7.99mm Width (bar mid point): 5.68mm. Thickness: 3.98mm (bar mid point).
