High Croft
Description:
New house built on the site of Farm Cottage for Miss Mary Frances Saurin (d. 1912, daughter of Admiral Saurin), with a garden designed by Gertrude Jekyll. The house stayed in the family until at least 1936 when Pauline, widow of Arthur Saurin, died. Hardcastle, p. 193: ‘The old farm cottage was superseded by the present house (Little Hay O.S. No. 390) in 1902 and the land divided into two properties, the name of Highcroft going with the house on O.S. No 391. Claim No. 1213. This new house was built for Miss Saurin and the garden laid out by Gertrude Jekyll.’
