New house possibly built for John Henry Howard (1848-1902) and his wife Sarah Constance (1853-1929), who lived there until 1920. Richard Westlake lived there 1923-6. In 1924 it was for sale, described as 'a modernized house and over 40 acres' and in 1928, as 'one of the most delightful small estates in the heart of the New Forest'.
