Fountain Court

House designed for Sir George Thursby by George Herbert Kitchen (c.1870-1951), a true architect in the Arts and Crafts tradition. Little is known of his early training but by 1903 he had set up practice in Winchester. His sketchbooks are in the RIBA drawings collection (Bilikoski p. 38). But Coles from the Auction catalog of 1949, has 1918 and architects John and Paul Coleridge, ‘in the style of a Sussex manor house’.Hampshire Treasures, p. 23 describes it as a ‘Beautiful house in Sussex Farmhouse style. Brick painted white, built 1914. Views from house and garden, over the water garden and lake.’
