Photo: Tuck Postcard, showing the house built in 1909.
Description:

In 1893 the last Innkeeper, Woodford, died and most, if not all, of the five plots were then bought by the Hon. Auberon Herbert of Old House. The Inn became a Tea House, presided over by a Mr. and Mrs. Clark who, in turn, were folled by Miss Fraser (1900) and Mr. Sam Roberts and his daughters (1905). In 1909 the Rev. Phelps died and the Hon. Herbert’s son, Lord Lucas, pulled down both the Craigs’ and the Phelps ‘houses, and built a larger one on the western [i.e. Dilamgerbendi] plot, in which he lived. He was killed in the War in 1916.
