Palace House

Bought by the Earl of Southampton, Thomas Wriothesley, after the dissolution of the monasteries. Widnell p. 145: Henry James Lord Montagu of Beaulieu (d. 1845) was the first owner [he inherited it in 1827] to consider it home. He did much for the property, the people, and the parish.From 1845 it was the seat of Lord Henry Montagu Douglas Scott (1832-1905) for whom the title Baron Montagu of Beaulieu was created. The house was remodelled in 1872 by Arthur Blomfield (1829-99).
