Nature of request: John le White of Thorley states that when the King granted him the keeping of the manors of Thorley and Wellow on the Isle of Wight for the term of twelve years, he spent a lot of his money stocking the manors and providing for his cultivation, but that when he had done so, the King gave the manors to Hugh le Despenser, without reason and contrary to the terms of his commission. He requests an allowance for his costs and expenses, or, in compensation, an allowance for a debt of £71 for goods and chattels found in the manors, with which he is charged in the Exchequer.
