Description: Petitioners: Abbot and convent of Bindon. Addressees: King and council. Nature of request: The petitioners state that Montagu by favour and power was made abbot of the house, but was subsequently removed for this and for great trespasses that he had done by the abbot of Ford, the visitor. It was ordained by the chapter general that he should be kept in perpetual custody. However he often does the house harm by escaping from his keepers. The petitioners request that the abbots of Beaulieu and Netley be ordered that they securely keep Montagu. Nature of endorsement: Let the abbots do what can be done by the rule of their order. Places mentioned: Bindon, [Dorset]. People mentioned: John de Montagu, late Abbot of Bindon; Abbot of Ford; Abbot of Beaulieu; Abbot of Netley.
