Description: Petitioners: Abbot and convent of Beaulieu. Addressees: King and council. Nature of request: The Abbot and convent of Beaulieu request that, as it has been ordained that the staple for wool is to be in England, the staple for the south country might be at Southampton, as if it is at Winchester as has been ordained, this will be to the detriment of the king and of the Abbot and convent, and of all others in the country selling wools - as will be found by a good inquest in Hampshire and the adjoining counties. Nature of endorsement: Coram rege et magno consilio.Because the staple was ordained at Winchester by common counsel, let the staple remain there. Places mentioned: Beaulu le Roy (Beaulieu), [Hampshire]; Southampton, [Hampshire]; Winchester, [Hampshire]; Hampshire.
